Art Tour to Nelahozeves Castle

The castle of Nelahozeves represents the top of Czech Renaissance architecture. After the communist period it has been given back to the noble Lobkowicz family and one of the largest private picture gallery in Europe has been opened for the public. Do not miss the nice collection of Spanish portraits, works of Breughel, Velasquez, Rubens, Cranach, Spranger, Veronese. In the castle you will admire also furniture, glass, porcelain, books, musical instruments and manuscripts of Beethoven, Mozart and others.

After the visit you will stop in front of the castle to visit a small local museum situated in the birthplace of the worldwide famous Czech composer Antonín Dvořák. He was born in this house on the 8th of September 1841, in a butcher´s family. After studying at the music schools in Prague he started to work in Prague National Theatre with Bedřich Smetana. In the second half of the 19th century he spend several years abroad: in Germany, Sweden, England, Austria. In 1892 he was invited to America and he became the director of the National Conservatory of Music in New York where he wrote the famous Symphony of the New World. He died in 1904 in Prague and his grave is at the Vyšehrad Cemetery.
