Brno, the capital of the Czech province of Moravia, is the second largest city in the Czech Republic (pop. 400,000), it is large enough to possess all the benefits of a major European centre, but small enough to retin its coziness and charm. Above the city centre there is a huge Baroque Spilberk fortress, from the 19th century used also as a prison, on another hill you will see an outstanding Gothic church of Petrov.
During the visit of the city centre you will see all historical sights, including the late Gothic Town Hall with a big crocodile which is a symbol of Brno.
Slavkov near the city of Brno is another name for Austerlitz, world-known as the battlefield where Napoleon defeated the combined armies of the Russian and Austrian Empires on December 2, 1805.
The Baroque chateau includes not only a gallery of paintings and historical furniture, but there is a also an interesting museum with a permanent exhibiton on the theme of the Battle of Austerlitz. After visiting the chateau, you will be taken up the hill where the Monument of the Battle can be seen, you will have a short stop in the middle of the battlefield.
This visit is suitable for people interested in arts, history and military strategy.
